Unblock Facebook in China

Tunneling Through The Great Firewall

Unblock Facebook in China – June, July, August 2012

Comments Off

summer 2012Yeah, Facebook is still blocked in China, but there have been a few recent changes to the game.  Just a few days ago, my site got majorly deranked in Google.  While I was ranking #1 for the terms 'Unblock Facebook in China" and "access Facebook in China", Google decided that my site wasn't good enough for page 1.  So what's the deal?

Who knows.

Point being, I've got to make updates to my blog to make sure that Google things I'm still alive.

Because apparently they think that some jackass answers from 2009 in Yahoo! Answers and Flyer Forums is more relevant that my super helpful information on the site.

Sure, it's a bit narcissistic, but what expats in China are going to devote thousands of hours to bringing an easy to understand, up to date, and helpful website to people trying to unblock Facebook in China?

Not many.

Ok, so I make commissions of the sales, that's to be expected.  Even sites like ChinaSMACK or LostLaoWai make money off of advertising – it's the way the game works.

unblock facebook in china 2But do they comment on which VPNs are blocked? No. They are news oriented.

Do they tell you the difference between VPNs and proxies? No. It's not on their agenda.

Do they make it easy to hide your IP address from The GFW? No. I do that.

So I'll continue to complain till Google gives my back my rankings.

Otherwise, expats and potential tourists in China are going to be stuck with retarded answers from Flyertalk (they really don't know what they're talking about there), and "access Facebook " proxies (that don't work BTW) are going to rank and give you false answer to the questions you're asking.

When Facebook is blocked by a Firewall – Use a Proxy to Unblock It

facebook blocked by firewallFacebook – Firewall – Proxy

Help! Facebook is blocked by my networks Firewall. How do I use a proxy to access it?

School and Work Firewalls blocking Facebook

Most school and work Internet networks block entertainment, chatting, and networking sites like Facebook to keep people on task. The truth is that these sites are addictive and distracting. These blocks are created with firewalls. Firewalls mediate the communication of IPs on the network with IPs outside of the network.  You can unblock Facebook when it's blocked by a firewall by using a proxy.  Proxies use cached data or make requests on your behalf to provide you access with blocked sites.

Governments blocking Facebook with Firewalls

The world is moving towards the direction of further integration of social networking sites into everyday business and communication.  Sites like Facebook and YouTube have gone beyond their original purpose of "just being fun" and turned into billion dollars businesses. However, Facebook, YouTube, and other similar sites (Vimeo, Twitter) have been banned in China due to the censorship laws about national security. Facebook is blocked in China with The Great Firewall, and all the same, a proxy can be used to unblock it.

unblock facebook with proxyUsing your web browser to surf anonymously

Though there are settings on most web browsers nowadays that allow anonymous surfing through open proxies, these don't work all the time. Most network administrators are aware of these and are able to block them.  Also, this can be confusing for new users.

Free Web Based Proxies

There are also free web based proxies available.  With a quick Google search, you can find many.  The problem with these is that many are unprofessional and slow due to bandwidth limitations.  Well known spam distributors, you should always be cautious when choosing a free web based proxy to bypass firewalls.

Premium Proxy Services

This is my preferred way to access blocked sites.  I'm able to use some premium proxies even from behind The Great Firewall, the most advanced firewall in the world – proof that they work.  With a premium service, you don't have to worry about spam or bandwidth limitations.  You get support, and access to premium servers in The US and The UK.

I use SecuriTales.  There's a free trial and a 30 day money back guarantee, so I don't need to say much about it because you can try it for yourself – for FREE.

Freedur Blocked in China

For the longest time I was able to access Freedur. I thought that, unlike Witopia, it had survived the block of vpn services on March 16, but I was got word from some people visiting the site that my links to Freedur weren't working.  I checked them today on a few different compters and locations. It seems that Freedur has been blocked in China.  It's hard to tell – there's nothing on the news so far, so it may be that their servers are down for the moment. I'll get back to you on this and if Freedur is truely blocked in China, I'll change the Top Five Vpn's in China right away!

Super Vpn

Supervpn.com will give you a free vpn (PPTP or L2TP) if you write a review on your blog. Now that I think about it, that's kind of useless in China, but you can try it anyway.  I mean, sometimes these things work.

Status on Gmail, Vpn’s, and China’s

Well, it’s March 30th, just over ten days after the vpn blocking bonanza on the sixteenth of this month. I’ll admit, I joined in frenzy.

OMG! NO MORE VPN’s!

Well, it turns out to not be so bad. Most of the companies that were blocked are back online and pretty much the same as before. As far as I know Witopia is still down, but as usual, there are reports in places that it’s still accessible.

12vpn has finally come back online with a new get-up, a new price, and a US only option. Unfortunately their previously crazy cheap prices are no-more.

There are now rumours that China is using invisible ninja’s to access our gmail accounts. OH NO! I guess they’ll find out all the secrets I’m hiding in my Gmail account!

Not.

Oh no! I’ll warn my JR buddies to use hotmail instead.

Not.

An interesting quote regarding the blocked vpn’s in China

Li Wufeng, chief of the Information Office Internet Affairs Bureau of China’s State Council, said there have “never been any issues involving the access of legitimate VPN services that are used by companies to enhance security”

I wonder how they distinguish the difference…

China Blocking Gmail and Secure Vpn’s
– Australian Business Traveler

I can’t remember if I posted this the other day, but Strongvpn has gone back onlie. 12vpn and Witopia are still blocked. Freedur and Skydur are still up as well. I really wouldn’t try anything else. Maybe I’m just partial to bold colors and simple sites.

I’ve been unable to access my Gmail account without changing it to basic HTML. Maybe it’s a problem with my computer or their switch to https encryption.

It’s all going to hell…

Just yesterday I thought Strongvpn and 12vpn were doing great because they survived 'THE Block', but as of tonight, march 18 at about eight o'clock I was unable to access either of them. My vpn is still working, so that's good news if you've already go one or are planning to buy one – i.e. if they block your site at least you can still use your vpn to get around. But it's just frustrating to see that China's firewall is winning the battle. I'll give it a bit of time before I go and Change my entire site, but for now, if you run across this blog – Astrill and Purevpn are still up. I'm getting hot and heavy for Astrill – cheap vpns, nice site design, OpenVpn/SSL options, and most of all, accessible. Check em' out before it's too late. Oh and heads up for Mac users – PureVpn only has SSTP for Windows 7 and Vista so go with Astrill. Astrill Vpn Pure Vpn
