VyprVPN has recently upgraded a lot of things within their service, so I’ve completely rewritten this review from its original form in 2011. Here’s what’s changed.
VyprVPN used to be $20 per month for OpenVPN + L2TP Package and $15 for a PPTP VPN package (per month). They’ve reduced the price to $14.99 for the ProVPN service, and $9.99 for the PPTP package. This puts them on par with other VPN services that are currently available in China.
Most recently they’ve added a Premier Package which is $19.99 per month. The main advantage of this package is that you’ll get 3 simultaneous connections. This is a pretty unique feature. There are a couple services that have come around to this idea of multiple connections with one account, but most don’t operate in China. (note: VyprVPN Pro allows for 2 connections).
Now they’ve also added discounts for yearly prices. This means you can pay a one time fee per year, and if you do the math, it works out to a cheaper price per month ($6.67, $8.33, $10)
Their previously limited server location of 5 or 6 countries has been expanded to many times larger than what was originally available just 2 years ago. This includes the US and UK, as well as other locations in Europe, Asia, and North America. They have actually grown their server and IP count to be the largest of any other VPN service featured here at Unblock Facebook in China. There are some services with larger VPN networks but they are unavailable in China.
I had a really difficult time installing VyprVPN in 2011. They now have easy-install VPN clients (software) for Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android. All VPN services claim compatibility with various operating systems. Very few actually offer apps. This helps you interact with the VPN efficiently, and saves you hassle with installation, IP changes, or working with other features. They have been hard at work on their apps this year, and I now think it’s one of their best features.
What’s Stayed The Same
Though there were lots of positive changes, VyprVPN kept some very important features of their service, which allow me to continue to promote it on my website, and rank it among the highest.
VyprVPN still works at an equal-to or better speed than other VPN services in China. They have experienced very few issues with regards to dealing with the Chinese firewall, and consistently provide high quality VPN connections, fewer dropped connections, and fast browsing/streaming.
VyprVPN has always provided high quality, fast-responding customer service. Even some of the ‘top players’ in the VPN-in-China space really lack in the customer service area.
Commitment to Privacy
VyprVPN is committed to your privacy. They write their own software, own their own server network, and perform all maintenance in-house. This gives them more control over their network, and not only allow for a higher quality of service and speed (as mentioned above), but they are also able to better preserve your privacy. Not all of us are conspiracy theorists or worry about the government spying on us, but living in China does make one consider the security of our online communications.
